My dog seems to require so much more exercise
than I have time or can physically give.

I work long hours and worry that my dog is spending
too  much alone and when I come  home she goes bonkers!

My dog pulls on the leash so strongly it is unpleasant
to go for walks.   At the sight of other dogs, mine goescrazy
and I'm afraid  she will bite them.

Even though my dog is past the puppy
stage she is constantlychewing everything!
My dog is so restless and is always zooming around
the house, trying to get me to play fetch and tug.

So, like what happens in Day Care?

Lots of running, rompin' and rasslin'!!!

Some dogs like to wrestle, others like to chase each
other and others like to sniff and putter around watching
the other dogs and their antics.

The pups play up a storm in our playroom with much time
spent outside in our secure, fenced Barkyard where they play
chase games, sniff, dig and explore!

As well, we continuously employ positive reinforcement for desirable
behaviors (sit, recall, 'watch me', etc) while attempting to redirect
undesirable behaviors (mounting, mouthing, barking, 'gentle', etc).
One of our goals is to reinforce your training!

All of the time a pup is here at The Chewed Slipper they are
under the watchful, loving eyes of humans.  Dogs are kept safe
with constant supervision

Safety and control of our 'pack' is paramount!!!!!

DAY CARE CAN WORK WONDERS!

Even a Half Day of Day Care per week can keep a dog socialized
and mentally stimulated.  For many dogs that's all they need!
For those dogs with much higher energy drives, a full day once
or twice a week can have a dramatic impact.   As it is so stimulating,
the most Day Care we would recommend is three days a week!

IMPORTANT: SOCIAL ASSESSMENT

Prior to Day Care or Bed & BARKfest Boarding, ALL fur-kids require a FREE Social Assessment. In the Social Assessment you will share your dog's personal history: health details,  behaviors, experience with other dogs, etc.
Each Social Assessment will take about 20-30 minutes of your time and then your dog will be asked to stay for an hour or two ALL AT NO CHARGE!
The Social Assessment is invaluable in learning how each dog plays and who (other dogs) they play best with.

Aggression Policy
When dogs play, it can be sloppy, rough and involve alot of mouth play.  Should a dog ever bite another dog aggressively  and especially should that dog harm to another dog, that dog will be immediately removed permanently from play in our environment. This is at the Management's discretion and any decisions made will be irreversible. No studded collars are allowed. Safety is our paramount concern!!!!

The Chewed Slipper is not a 'DOGGY' Day Care, we are a dog day care & socialization centre. 'Doggy' is a sweet, but innocuous way to describe the domesticed animal that we invite into our homes. Dogs are wonderful companions, helpers and in some cases life-savers. Sure, dogs can be goofy and funny, they are never cartoonish and though adorable and sweet,  dogs are not 'babies'. These extraordinary creatures have a will of their own and teeth designed for more than chewing on toys. It is our goal at The Chewed Slipper to honour the true nature of dogs by fulfilling their need for safe socialization and positive human leadership. This is acheived by providing a fun, SAFE environment filled with dogs that pass a thorough interview. Understand this: WE ARE NOT A REHAB. If your dog is aggressive or 'really doesn't like other dogs', we will not be able to help you. Should your dog have serious aggression or fear issues,  we encourage you to be an owner of action: find a trainer who is experienced in positive-based methods, will provide references and who will work with you and your dog both in your home and outside the home environment. The Canadian Association for Professional Pet Dog Trainers offers a fantastic checklist and trainer list  HERE.
